생명에 이르는 죽음(요11:11-16)

11.  이어서 "우리 친구 라자로가 잠들어 있으니 이제 내가 가서 깨워야겠다." 하고 말씀하셨다.

12.  그러자 제자들은 "주님, 라자로가 잠이 들었다면 곧 살아나지 않겠습니까?" 하고 말하였다.

13.  예수께서 하신 말씀은 라자로가 죽었다는 뜻이었는데 제자들은 그저 잠을 자고 있다는 말로 알아들었던 것이다.

14.  그래서 예수께서는 분명히 말씀하셨다. "라자로는 죽었다.

15.  이제 그 일로 너희가 믿게 될 터이니 내가 거기 있지 않았던 것이 오히려 잘된 일이다. 그 곳으로 가자."

16.              그 때에 쌍둥이라고 불리던 토마가 자기 동료인 딴 제자들에게 "우리도 함께 가서 그와 생사를 같이합시다." 하고 말하였다.

John11:11-16

[11] Thus he spoke, and then he said to them, "Our friend Laz'arus has fallen asleep, but I go to awake him out of sleep."
[12] The disciples said to him, "Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover."
[13] Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that he meant taking rest in sleep.
[14] Then Jesus told them plainly, "Laz'arus is dead;
[15] and for your sake I am glad that I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him."
[16] Thomas, called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, "Let us also go, that we may die with him."
